Héritage Champlain

Héritage Champlain Project – Deconstruction of the Original Champlain Bridge

Since July 2020, The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) has been carrying out the planned and environmentally responsible deconstruction of the original Champlain Bridge — an iconic structure that served the Greater Montreal area for 57 years. Completed in November 2023, this milestone released nearly 7 acres of waterfront land, paving the way for the “Héritage Champlain” project.

The goal: to enhance three riverfront sectors — on Île des Sœurs, the seaway dyke, and the South Shore (Brossard) — by creating accessible green corridors featuring pedestrian and cycling paths, refined landscaping, scenic lookouts, and commemorative installations honoring the legacy of the original bridge.

Poly‑Expert Distribution’s Contribution to Stormwater Management

As part of efforts to improve the project’s hydraulic efficiency and long-term resilience, Poly‑Expert Distribution played an active role in both the dyke section and, more specifically, on Île des Sœurs. The company supplied and deployed the PDX‑12 trench drain from ABT Drains, a high-performance surface drainage system made from polymer concrete. Its key feature: a 1% built-in slope, ensuring optimal flow without the need for manual grade correction.

On Île des Sœurs, the trench drain is paired with an ornamental grate, seamlessly integrated into the urban landscape — combining aesthetics, durability, and performance.

This achievement was made possible under the leadership of DERIC Construction, whose flawless formwork reflects a high level of craftsmanship and technical precision. A partner of excellence in delivering this landmark project.
