Redesign of the Entrance at Fire Station 73 – Ville Saint-Laurent, Montréal
Project Type: Surface Drainage
Location: Ville Saint-Laurent, Montréal (QC)
Client: City of Montréal
Partner: Fire Station 73 – Montréal Fire Department
Project Description
As part of the effort to improve the operational access to Fire Station 73, located at the bottom of a slope in Ville Saint-Laurent, the City of Montréal implemented a robust and durable surface drainage solution. The main objective was to prevent water accumulation at the station’s entrance and to ensure safe maneuvering for emergency vehicles.
Poly-Expert Distribution was selected to supply a high-performance system tailored to the structural and hydraulic demands of a critical municipal infrastructure.
Supplied Solution
Product used: Polydrain 2532 – Precast polymer concrete trench drain
Technical features:
Built-in longitudinal slope of 0.6% for efficient gravity drainage
Durable polymer concrete body, resistant to de-icing salts, freeze-thaw cycles, and wear
G-rated grates (200,000 lbs capacity), suitable for frequent heavy-duty traffic
Installed perpendicularly across the station’s entrance, ensuring optimal transverse water capture
Technical Challenges
Effective drainage of surface runoff at the bottom of a slope
Maintaining full access to the fire station throughout construction
Integration with the roadway without causing settlement or structural breaks
Results
The installation of the Polydrain 2532 system has significantly improved surface water management at the entrance of Fire Station 73. The system delivers reliable drainage performance while preserving the integrity of the pavement and ensuring continuous, safe emergency access.
